Guest hosting The Morning Blend is always a good time, and today’s superb lineup really showed how much work, collaboration, thought, preparation, and juggling that’s done behind the scenes to bring viewers the most interesting guests with the best stories and incredible skills. It can’t be easy to have live reports from across the country and bring in folks from every corner of it, but my friends behind The Blend do it. I was happy once again to flitter in and act like I had a part in it.

Our “Magic: The Gathering” on the Big Screen

Bubbling Beebles by Jeff Miracola for Magic: The Gathering

Bubbling Beebles by Jeff Miracola for Magic: The Gathering

I have never posted about movies on my website, but this one’s special. This one’s EPIC. This one is based on a world that my husband helped bring to life through his artwork — a world that continues to influence our lives nearly every day.

Magic: The Gathering is a hugely (and by that, I mean ENORMOUSLY) popular role-playing game. If you haven’t heard of it, trust me, plenty of people in your circle have — and lots have played it. The card-based game pits characters and powers, beasts and spells, against each other to determine an ultimate mega champion. Yes, there are world-wide championships. Yes, some players dress in costume. It’s cool. It’s fun. And now it’ll be a FEATURE FILM!

I’m so immensely proud to say that my husband, Jeff Miracola, helped visualize that world. His art has graced 110 cards; he started painting for them in 1995. Fans of the game love his work, and the whole M:TG world has been a fun ride for us.

We’re hoping Beebles will be included, as they sprung entirely out of his imagination, all cute and naked as they are. Proud of my hubby! CAN’T WAIT to see the flick!

A Successful Weekend on the Ice

Silvia Acevedo _Small I started my season later than normal, but I’m really happy to say that it really doesn’t show too much. I skated five races in this weekend’s “Masters International Single Distance Championships” at the Pettit National Ice Center in Milwaukee. It was my first competition this season and my first Masters meet ever.

This meet crowns champs in the 500, 1000, 1500, 3000, and 5000 meter distances. I was nervous about a few distances that I hadn’t skated yet this year, but, with my training and great help from my cheering family, I skated times that were right in line with my personal bests. I got the titles in my age division and left feeling great for the rest of the year.

My student skater did really well, too! Here’s a picture of Huy with me. He’s new at this but will soon be one of the fastest out there, I’m absolutely sure. I’m proud of him. It’s great coaching Masters — and skating with them, too!
